Originally installed at Alton Court Waterworks Pumping Station, Ross on Wye. It was in general service until 1964 and was last used in 1970. For some years from 1932 onwards it provided back-up to its successor engine, an Allen two-cylinder diesel engine which can also be found at the Museum.

1880: Originally installed and housed in a cellar, it pumped water for household and garden needs from a deep well at Taplow Lodge on the Cliveden Estate, Buckinghamshire. Discovered by the National Trust in 1991, it was restored by local enthusiasts and began to run again in 1995 and until 2004, it is believed that the engine was run only once a year.

This horse drawn manual fire pump delivered water from a two cylinder pump which was operated by the handles on both sides and the treadles in the front. Special features are the use of leather for the inlet and discharge hoses and the wicker-work strainer when drawing water from a pond and the water tank was being filled.
